The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse

Revelation 6 and 7

This is a portrait of humankind’s unbridled passion...

unleashed desires.  We see four horses galloping almost

out of control, over the face of an earth in the process

of disintegration.

The lead horse and rider are symbolic of military conquest.

The second rider, with raised sword, represents internal disorder and bloodshed.  The rider with scales represents famine, plagues, economic woes, exacerbated by profiteering.

The last horse and rider symbolize death, the aftermath of the first three. Not only physical death is predicted, but also spiritual death from evil deeds.

“they cried out in a loud  voice...how long will it be before you judge and avenge our blood on the inhabitants of the earth?”
